Dear Family…
The shine is shining, but we live and working through some of the most devastation, we have seen in a decade. Nevertheless, as Christians, we live as people who always hope. Our hope is in the Lord. As you and I anchor our souls and faith in God in Christ Jesus, I wanted to give you an update on what is happening at Mission Bend Campus.
First, we suffered no major water damages. The Trustee’s, Lay Leader and other concerned members have been to the church for total assessment of the campus. The minor findings, is that we do have some major/minor leaks in both buildings. Nonetheless, the one number one concern is that we found mold in sanctuary and choir room. We are moving through the process with the Trustee’s leadership who have had professionals out over the last couple of days to give us the true picture of where we are in the building. As of yesterday, we have learned that the air condition that supplies air to the sanctuary and choir room is our source for the mold. Yesterday, when entering the sanctuary, there was no air circulating as compared to the day before. Upon the advisement of the professionals, we are to keep closed the sanctuary and choir room. If you visited the church, the doors are closed with signs do not enter. Your safety is our concern. We have had the building professionally tested and we are sure the mold is bad in these areas. We do not have the treatment plan and cost. The samples are sent away for testing. This process usually takes three business days, but because the center in Houston is closed due to our natural disaster, they are being sent to Arizona. It may take a week just to get results back. After which, we can get the prescription of a treatment plan and cost. While this activity is taking place, the air condition company will be out today, Friday to determine next steps for the units.
Bottom line:
- Mold in sanctuary and choir room
- Sanctuary air condition not working, the culprit for the problem
What does this mean for worship Sunday?
One service of Prayer and Revival, Comfy and Casual under the Pavilion @ 10:00am. Bring lawn chairs, as we are limited with chairs because we cannot use chairs out of sanctuary. The weather promised to be favorable. Thank God!
What happens next?
We will take this process one day at a time. We will continue to keep you in the loop of progress.
What can I do?
Your tithes and offerings will be most important during this time. We don’t know what we are looking at financially, but we know this will be costly. Keep praying for God’s favor in this situation.
Can we get help from district or conference?
As you know, many churches in the conference has suffered damage and lost with Hurricane Harvey. Therefore, not sure if financial support is available.
What about our insurance?
Your Trustees are on top of it.
I pray we have given you the best information available. Share with others, truthfully as shared in this letter. Stay in prayer for our city, and all the other cities, for all the people affected in what has come to shake and stir us at our very core. I find comfort in Isaiah 43:2 (CEB) “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; when through the rivers, they won’t sweep over you.”
Love ya much, take care and blessings
Pastor Carolyn
