Praise God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is so good, and by raising Jesus from death, he has given us new life and hope that lives on. (1 Peter 1:3 CEV)
Holy, Living Lord,
Welcome to the living Stone, the source of life. The workmen took one look and threw it out; God, you set it in the place of honor. (1 Peter 2:4 MSG) Come to Jesus Christ. He is the living stone that people have rejected, but which you, God, have chosen and highly honored. (1 Peter 2:4 CEV)
Let us present ourselves as building stones for the construction of a sanctuary vibrant with life, in which we’ll serve as holy priests offering Christ-approved lives up to you, God. (1 Peter 2:5 MSG) And now we are living stones that are being used to build a spiritual house. We are also a group of holy priests, and with the help of Jesus Christ we will offer sacrifices that will please you, God. (1 Peter 2:5 CEV)
Lord, we thank you for this present group of confirmands and rejoice in their new lives in Christ. Thank you for their teachers, sponsors, mentors and parents. Thank you for our Lay Leader, Hylton James and Lay Delegates to Annual Conference, Monte Hyman and Linda Hooker. Thank you for the Lay Leadership team, especially Pat Eggler, David Layfield, Carol Edwards and Mary Etta Kelly. Thank you for their witness and labors of love for this community of faith.
We are God’s chosen and special people. We are a group of royal priests and a holy nation. God, you brought us out of darkness and into your marvelous light. Now we all must tell of the wonderful things you have done. (1 Peter 2:9 CEV) Once we were not a people; but now we are God’s people; once we had not received mercy, but now we have received mercy. (1 Peter 2:10 ESV). Help each of us to keep our eyes on Jesus Christ and to walk with him in humility, joy and peace. Thanks be to God, Amen.
