MAY 2020 MBUMC FOCUS PRAYER
You are invited to join the Prayer Ministry team in praying this prayer.
The inner courage or determination that allows a person to face and deal with difficulties; a strong or positive quality.
This is strength.
No one is holy like the Lord; there is none like him, no protector like our God. He protects the lives of his faithful people; a man does not triumph by his own strength. (1 Samuel 2:2,9a,c Good News Translation)
Holy God, you know that our world, our country, our own daily lives are challenged by difficult circumstances. Like the psalmist, many of us will say, “I am worn out, O Lord; have pity on me! Give me strength; I am completely
exhausted and my whole being is deeply troubled. How long, O Lord, will you wait to help me?” (Psalm 6:2-3 GNT)
The Lord gives strength to his people and blesses them with peace. (Psalm 29:11). We are comforted by your Word, saying, “God is our shelter and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.” (Psalm 46:1 GNT)
I have confidence in your strength; you are my refuge, O God. I will sing about your strength; every morning I will sing aloud of your constant love. You have been a refuge for me, a shelter in my time of trouble. (Psalm 59:9, 16) I will go in the strength of the Lord God; I will proclaim your goodness, yours alone. (Psalm 71:16) My mind and my body may grow weak, but God is my strength; he is all I ever need. (Psalm 73:26) God spoke to Isaiah and to us saying, “I am the Lord your God; I strengthen you and tell you, ‘Do not be afraid; I will help you.’” (Isaiah 41:13 GNT)
Finally, build up your strength in union with the Lord and by means of his mighty power. (Ephesians 6:10) Paul reminds us of this saying, “May you be made strong with all the strength which comes from His glorious power, so that you may be able to endure everything with patience. And with joy give thanks to the Father, who has made you to have your share of what God has reserved for his people in the kingdom of light. (Colossians 1:11-12) To get this done I toil and struggle, using the mighty strength which Christ supplies and which is at work in me. (Colossians 1:29 GNT). May it be so, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Lead me, Lord, lead me in thy righteousness;
Make thy way plain before my face.
For it is thou, Lord, thou Lord only that makes me to dwell in safety.
H473, words Psalms 5:8, 4:8, music by Samuel Sebastian Wesley, 1861
