The Vibrant Church Initiative conducted a Consultation Weekend for the people of Mission Bend United Methodist Church last weekend, February 26-28, 2016. Over those three days, a four-person team conducted focus groups of congregation members and leaders, interviews with the pastors and staff, a Saturday all-church workshop on the changing landscape of culture and churches, and Sunday worship. After worship, approximately 100 congregation members heard for the first time the VCI Report for Mission Bend, including 5 strengths, 5 areas of concern, and 5 prescriptions for our congregation to prayerfully consider.
Beginning this Sunday, you are invited to participate in a Town Hall meeting with other congregation members to share feedback about the VCI Report and learn more about what adopting it will mean for our church. The times, dates, and locations of each Town Hall are as follows:
Sunday, March 6th at 12:15 pm
MBUMC
Thursday, March 10th at 7:00 pm
Mike & Ruth Stovall’s home in Sugar Land
Monday, March 21st at 7:00 pm
MBUMC
Tuesday, March 29th at 7:00 pm
Bob & Linda Hooker’s home in Katy
Saturday, April 2nd at 10:00 am
MBUMC
You can download the entire VCI Report for Mission Bend here.
We will also be distributing the report this Sunday in all three worship services, and it will be available at all five Town Hall meetings. Following the completion of these meetings, the entire church will vote at a called Church Conference whether or not to adopt this VCI Report. 75% of the church members present must vote to adopt the VCI Report in order to enter this phase of the process. The Church Conference will be held as follows:
Sunday, April 10th at 12:15 pm
MBUMC Sanctuary
If you want to know more about the entire Vibrant Church Initiative, the Texas Annual Conference has an overview on their website as well as stories from churches who have faithfully completed the process. Please contact the church office if you have questions specific to our process, and a pastor or lay leader will respond promptly to your query.
Please pray for wisdom, discernment, and faithfulness for our church throughout this season. Every single person — no matter how young or old, no matter your ethnic or cultural background, no matter how long you have been a part of MBUMC — is needed to participate by listening, offering feedback, and being present to vote on the 10th of April. We value what each of you brings to the table, and want your voice to be heard. Without you, we cannot be the church God is calling us to be together. Thank you for participating in the VCI process to this point, and for your faithfulness as we move forward.
