SEPTEMBER 2018 MBUMC FOCUS PRAYER
You are invited to join the Prayer Ministry team in praying this focus prayer.
God gives out Wisdom free, is plainspoken in Knowledge and Understanding. He’s a rich mine of Common Sense for those who live well, a personal bodyguard to the candid and sincere. (Proverbs 2:6-7 MSG)
Holy God, we thank you for the gift of your Holy Bible, in which we may learn of you, of your word and of the plans you have for our lives. By your inspired words written down by King Solomon, we can know how to live well and right, to understand what life means and where it’s going; a manual for living, for learning what’s right and just and fair; to teach the inexperienced the ropes and give our young people a grasp on reality. There’s something here also for seasoned men and women, still a thing or two for the experienced to learn, fresh wisdom to probe. Let’s start with God – the first step in learning is bowing down to God. To have knowledge, we must first have reverence for the Lord. (Proverbs 1:2-7 MSG/GNT)
The road to life is a disciplined life. (Proverbs 10:17a MSG) God is solid backing to a well-lived life. (10:29a MSG) If you love learning, you love the discipline that goes with it—how shortsighted to refuse correction! (12:1)
Many words rush along like rivers in flood, but deep wisdom flows up from artesian springs. (18:4 MSG) Wise men and women are always learning, always listening for fresh insights. (18:15) Ears that hear and eyes that see—we get our basic equipment from God. (20:12) God guards knowledge with a passion, but he’ll have nothing to do with deception. (22:12)
Dear children, if you become wise, God will be one happy parent. His heart will dance and sing to the tuneful truth we’ll speak. Oh listen, dear children—become wise; point your lives in the right direction. (23:15-17)
As the apostle Paul spoke to the Colossians, so he also speaks to us saying, “I want you woven into a tapestry of love, in touch with everything there is to know of God. Then you will have minds confident and at rest, focused on Christ, God’s great mystery. All the richest treasures of wisdom and knowledge are embedded in that mystery and nowhere else. And we’ve been shown the mystery!” (Colossians 2:2-3)
Thanks be to God. We pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Verse 1: Holiness, holiness, is what I long for; holiness is what I need.
Holiness, holiness is what you want from me.
Refrain: Take my heart and mold it, take my mind, transform it,
take my will, conform it to yours, to yours, oh Lord.
Words by Micah Stampley, music by Scott Underwood, 2005.
