Torn to Be Made Whole
I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. (1 Corinthians 15:3–4)
Read: Notice the word buried in this verse. Buried not only offers proof that Jesus died but also shows us the high cost of our sin. Dead on the cross and laid in the tomb, Jesus was cut off, his very life torn from him. Yet, his burial declares that God makes the grave itself holy. God doesn’t abandon us, even in the grave. It is there in the grave that Christ, our Scapegoat, is buried. With him, our sins are buried, removed forever: “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29). All the way to the grave! One day you, too, will be buried. But Jesus’ resurrection is the guarantee of your resurrection. Reflect on what might be the Bible verse you place on your tombstone someday.
Action: As you leave, take with you a magnet (if provided) to remind you that you can “come boldly unto the throne of grace” (Hebrews 4:16 KJV). Let it also remind you of all the torn curtain reveals and means for you because of Jesus. You live with limitless access to God. You live in his limitless grace. Go with the Lord’s peace. Let it fill your heart to overflowing.
