Having just finished Charge Conference for the year I was asked to take a minute and help people understand what pastors do. It occurred to me that if one person asked, then others may have been wondering the same and coming up empty!
I could give you a run-down of my day to day activities but thought it would be more useful and informative if I started a conversation about the ministries and activities that I am involved in to further the vision of our church community.
The Worship Ministry is near and dear to my heart. Beginning last year, and with the help of staff members and lay volunteers, we have worked tirelessly to plan worship services that inspire faith through music and the word. There have been times when we hit the mark, and times when I am sure we didn’t, but the intention is always to create the understanding that worship is an attitude, and not just the actions of singing hymns and listening to a message.
During Lent Tommi Hamilton, Rudy & Marcia Lee, Dan Kramlich along with Alfred Villamil and our pastors worked to plan and lead worship. Currently, our Advent Planning team is planning Advent worship based on reading the scriptures for the season. Marcia Lee is leading the team consisting of Desh Olufeko, Karen Burkham, Sam Oyefeso and Peter Appiah as Dan Kramlich and I provide resources and experience. Throughout the process, I teach about the scriptures, church year, and overall themes related to Advent.
We are already looking ahead to build our Lenten worship planning team as well as services beyond Easter. Today is our children are leading us in worship through Children’s Sabbath and I know that we will be blessed to see what our children have to share with us.
In the coming weeks you will hear more from me about the areas of the church that I am involved in as well as from our other pastors on our staff. We are incredibly blessed to serve our God here at Mission Bend.
